Straker AI is an advanced technology company specializing in the development of highly specialized, custom Small Language Models (SLMs). We empower enterprises and high-growth Portcos to transform their proprietary data—from internal documentation and customer interactions to financial filings—into defensible, competitive AI assets.
Our core offering focuses on the Supercharger service, where we train bespoke SLMs that deliver unparalleled precision and quality specific to complex business domains and regulated industries. These custom models create a unique operational moat, driving next-level efficiency and automating high-stakes tasks that generic, publicly available AI cannot handle.
While pioneering custom AI development, Straker maintains a strong foundation in AI-powered language solutions, combining advanced generative AI with the expertise of over 45,000 human language experts. With a proven track record of strategic partnerships, including major tech players like IBM and Microsoft, Straker is a trusted partner for building mission-critical, proprietary AI infrastructure.
Relying on generic public Large Language Models (LLMs) for core business functions is a liability. They lack the specific knowledge of your domain, leading to inconsistent outputs, requiring constant human oversight, and failing to create a competitive barrier against rivals.
Straker solves this by turning your proprietary data into a specialized intelligence asset:
Proprietary Defensibility (The SLM Moat): We don't use off-the-shelf models. Our Small Language Models (SLMs) are fine-tuned exclusively on your organization's unique data (documents, tickets, code, etc.). This creates a proprietary AI asset that delivers domain-specific accuracy and cannot be replicated by competitors.
Next-Level Operational Efficiency: Our custom models are purpose-built to automate your most complex workflows, from specialized customer support to automated financial analysis. This reduces dependency on manual intervention, drastically slashes operational costs, and allows your Portco to scale without a linear increase in headcount.
Seamless Integration & Security: Straker provides a complete workflow orchestration layer that connects directly with your existing tech stack. This ensures a seamless, automated deployment of your custom AI while keeping your proprietary data and SLM secured within your operational environment.
Choose Straker to stop renting general AI and start owning the specialized intelligence that drives your business.

In a landmark 2022 collaboration, Straker, a New Zealand-based translation company, partnered with Microsoft to leverage their combined AI and translation platforms to improve the availability and scale of te reo Māori translations in New Zealand media. The collaboration combines Straker's existing translation software and AI with Microsoft's Translator platform to create an automated translation system. The AI serves as a tool to increase efficiency, but humans remain central to the process, with translators and editors reviewing and refining the AI-generated drafts. The goal is to enable the translation of large volumes of content, like entire news articles, into te reo Māori, making the language more accessible in everyday life.

For years, IBM relied on web-based tools and a sprawling network of local language service providers to manage translations. This process was fragmented, time-intensive, and required employees to navigate multiple systems, manually upload files, and manage complex approval processes. When IBM adopted the Straker app in Slack, everything changed. By integrating translation directly into Slack, IBM teams no longer needed to rely on external tools or multiple suppliers. Translation became a seamless part of their existing workflows. Today 300,000 users across 170 countries utilize the Straker App, dropping costs by a factor of five and increasing translation speed for an average document from seven days to 0.7 seconds.
